She is a child prodigy who went on to be the winner of the Kalaimamani Award 2018 for Bharathanatyam. On February 28, 2019. The Government of Tamilnadu under Chief Minister E. Edappadi K. Palaniswami conferred the award in recognition of the recipient’s excellence in various art forms which added to her many accolades. 

Our proud alumna had performed her Arangetram at the age of seven under the tutelage of Kalaimamani K.J. Sarasa. She has given over 700 performances since she was eight years old in  national and international festivals including Apna Utsav, New Delhi in 1986, and the BRICS

International Conference in New Delhi in 2013.Her other biggest recognition was UstadBismillah Khan YuvaPuraskar for excellence in her art. 

This proud recipient of the Kalaimamani award founded her Academy of Classical Dance „ Abhyasa .‟She is also an accomplished nattuvangam artiste, an imaginative choreographer of Bharathanatyam ballets and productions. Lavanya Sankar has also choreographed for the official anthem of “NamamiGange”, the mission of the Government of India to clean, rejuvenate, and conserve river Ganges.
